George Zimmer served in the Army Air Corps from January of 1943 to 1945 and was a Captain who taught Cadets how to fly planes. He also served for a short period of time in the “Ferry” Command for the Army Air Corps, transporting our U.S. aircraft all over the country. He was honored many times for his achievements in aviation and had the sole responsibility of either passing a Cadet to receive his Wings at graduation or washing out a Cadet who could not measure up to the rigorous training that was expected from the Army Air Corp. He was a “Perfectionist” when it came to flying and controlling an aircraft and expected nothing less from the Cadets that he trained. After the war he continued to serve his country in the Army Reserves. Late husband of Karen Zimmer, Vice President of Volusia Dem Vets.
