Grand Opening of the Campaign Headquarters for the Volusia County DEC.
Quarterly meeting of the DVCF at the FDP Leadership Blue weekend. Visit http://www.floridadems.org/LeadershipBlue2014 for additional information and full schedule for the weekend.
We have been chartered by the Florida Democratic Party to reach out to veterans and their supporters in Volusia County. Any Democrat registered in the county may join us to support veteran issues. Please attend this meeting to find out more. This meeting is being held in the conference room of Peggy's Whole Foods. They do have a nice menu for breakfast, so arrive early to take advantage of this and have a chance to chat with like-minded people.
We are pleased to announce that, from January 31 to February 2, 2014, the Democratic Veterans Caucus of Florida will be having a Retreat at the Mission Inn Resort and Club located in Howey-in-the-Hills in Lake County, Florida. The purpose of this retreat is to strategize about getting Democrats and Democratic Veterans elected to office in the 2014 Elections. We also want to be sure that any Candidates that are running for office in 2014 are knowledgeable of all Veterans issues that need to be addressed. During the course of the retreat, there will be many issues andconcerns that will be discussed by the State and Local Membership.
The Retreat will kick off with a VIP Reception Friday evening, followed by a busy Saturday of meetings and training. On Saturday evening, enjoy an elegant resort dinner in the company of your fellow activists. Click here to download the DVCF Retreat Registration Form, which outlines the resort packages that are available to fit each individual’s needs. We will also be offering Sponsorships at different levels for those people who are interested in advertising a business or organization in our printed event Brochure. Please let me know right away if I should send you a Sponsorship Form.
To find out more about the Mission Inn Resort and Club, please go to their website at www.missioninnresort.com and you will find a wonderful array of activities that the resort has to offer. The resort covers over a thousand acres and has two championship golf courses. They also offer Trap and Skeet Shooting, and have a state-of-the-art Fitness Center and Spa with a heated Swimming Pool. There are several restaurants available for your dining pleasure, from casual to more upscale depending on your preference. It’s truly an idyllic location!
If you have any further questions regarding the retreat, please feel free to call me at (386) 985-2244 or email me at welcomehome@cfl.rr.com and I will be happy to help you.
However, we only have a limited number of hotel rooms blocked for this event. A full slate of activities will commemorate Veterans Day at Daytona State College on Nov. 11, highlighted by 12 local service men and women of World War II, Korea and Vietnam who will receive special recognition. This includes one of the first Navy WAVES, a 93-year-old woman.
Organized by the Daytona State Falcon Veterans Club and the college’s Office of Co-Curricular Activities, the event runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Echo Plaza on the Daytona campus at 1200 W. International Speedway Blvd., Daytona Beach.
One and all are welcome to attend the free, public event, particularly current and former service members interested in how Daytona State’s Veterans Center can help with their transition into college life.
Organizations taking part in DSC’s Veterans Day commemoration include the American Ex-Prisoners of War Association, the Order of the Purple Heart, University of Central Florida PTSD Awareness and the Ormond Beach chapter of Rolling Thunder. The U.S. National Guard and various civilian organizations will add to the event with a collection of modern and vintage military assets.
Also marking the day, the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Color Guard will present the colors.
Among featured guest speakers is Dr. Melissa Paliani, a clinical psychologist with the Department of Veterans Affairs, who will speak about challenges veterans may face when transitioning into civilian life.
Please come out to honor our county's veterans. It sounds like DeLand is hoping to have a full-day celebration. The parade is supposed to run from Michigan Ave. near Stetson south to Howry Ave.
Members of the Volusia County Democratic Veterans Caucus of Florida, please meet at 9:30 AM at the Muse Book Shop at 112 S. Woodland Blvd. to organize for the work you will do for the Caucus during and after the parade. Coming to the parade takes the place of our November meeting, and we may hold a small meeting there. Contact President Les Thackston at info@volusiademvets.org or 386-871-7852 for additional information.
Contact DEC Chair Vonzelle Johnson for information on becoming a delegate to the conference at vonzelle.johnson@volusiademocraticparty.com. A $40 delegate fee is required, which should be made payable to the Volusia County DEC. You may attend the seminars and the training sessions at the conference without being a delegate for a $75 fee payable to the FDP.
